January 2014 Meeting resume

January’s meeting was the last in the Silver Jubilee Hall Takeley before refurbishment works at the hall start. Phil Kemp displayed a large number of pictures taken at Tannkosh 2013 as well as a trip to Switzerland.

Our next meeting AGM on 4th February will be at our new temporary venue St John’s Church Hall in Stansted Mountfitchet.

February 2014 Meeting resume

February’s meeting consisted of the branch’s Annual General Meeting. (Full details to follow) The chairman’s report can be read here and the Secretary’s Report can be read here

March 2014 Meeting resume

March’s meeting had to change at short notice due to our speaker Stan Hodgkins being unwell and unable to attend. His presentation has now been booked for our October meeting.

The evening became a photo presentation night with Geoff Abbott showing more pictures from his visit to the ChineseAirMuseum at Datangshan. Nigel Kemp presented his second visit to Heathrow carrying out marshalling training. This gave an insight in to views you would not see from today’s viewing areas. To close the meeting Brian Richards had a large amount of shots from EAA Airventure at Oshkosh last year

April 2014 Meeting resume

Our April meeting consisted of a presentation from Russell Savory of Stow Maries aerodrome. Russell spoke about the work carried out at the Airfield since its purchase in 2008. Russell explained that Stow Maires is much more than just a place to see Aeroplanes. The facilities are being used for education and for preserving the local wildlife. There are plans for the field to have Aircraft from the RAFMuseum as well as continued restoration of the buildings located there.

May 2014 Meeting resume

May, saw Flight Lieutenant Norman Wilson reminisce about his time in the Far East towards the end of World War II. Norman spoke about experience of Aircraft Engineering after leaving school at the Age of 16 before volunteering to join the Royal Air Force at the age of 18. Norman gained great experience being a member of the crew on many Sunderland missions and had some very interesting tales to tell about things going in his favour during some of the flights. Norman was very proud to be part of the flypast which was given tothepeople of Singapore and Lord Mountbatten at the official Surrender ceremony on the 12th September 1945.

June 2014 Meeting resume

Our June meeting consisted of a briefing given by Phil Kemp outlining the plans for the forthcoming Air Britain Fly-In at North Weald. This was followed by photos taken by Brian Richards at this year’s Sun & Fun in Florida.

July 2014 Meeting resume

Phil Kemp gave a run down of what had taken place at the Air Britain Fly-In. Attendees were asked for their feedback on the event and were asked for ideas for the 2015 event.

August 2014 Meeting resume

This was a photo evening with Colin Potter displaying shots taken at the Shuttleworth Collection and Alan Brown’s trip to EBACE & the Berlin Airshow taking in Airfield & Airports in France, Switzerland, Germany & Belgium.

September 2014 Meeting resume

September’s meeting saw our largest attendance of the year to date for the eagerly anticipated visit by Captain Richard Pike, a former Concorde pilot.

The talk covered a brief description of Richard’s career before Concorde and covered the work of a Concorde pilot on a flight from London Heathrow to New York JFK. The talk discussed speed, Height and many other details which the average passenger would not be aware of.

October 2014 Meeting resume

October’s meeting was another presentation evening given by Stan Hodgkins who with help from some video presentations described his career at ‘Martin Baker’ the company responsible for providing Ejector seats to a large number of the worlds military fighter and training aircraft. Stan covered the development from the Mark 1 seat through to the highly sophisticated seats on modern times.

November 2014 Meeting resume

Terry Dann returned to the Branch for his talk about the Auster’s he had flown. Terry used the evening as an opportunity to discuss his flying career as well as providing a history of the Auster from it’s beginning in 1938 through to 1961 when the company merged in to Beagle.

December was our quiz and Photo competition evening. More details of the competition can be found here
